Wal-Mart Revamps Management To Revive Sales

By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 10/10/2005

Bentonville, Ark. — Wal-Mart has reorganized its senior management structure in a bid to revive slackened sales both domestically and abroad.

Effective immediately, Mike Duke, previously president/CEO of Wal-Mart Stores U.S.A., will run Wal-Mart International as vice chairman. Conversely, John Menzer, previously president/CEO of Wal-Mart International, will head Wal-Mart Stores U.S.A. as vice chairman.

The two succeed former vice chairman Tom Coughlin, who retired in January and resigned from Wal-Mart's board last March amid charges of expense-account abuses and other financial improprieties.

Filling Duke's former role as U.S. stores president/CEO is Eduardo Castro-Wright, formerly executive VP/COO of the division. Wal-Mart has also promoted Pat Curran to executive VP/store operations.

On the Sam's Club side, Greg Spragg was reassigned from executive VP/operations to executive VP/merchandising and replenishment. He was succeeded by former regional VP Greg Johnston.
