HP Offers new iPAQ PDAs, Navman Ships GPS/PDA

By Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, 9/26/2005

Cupertino, Calif. — Hewlett-Packard this week introduced two new Pocket PC handhelds based on the new Windows 5.0 platform.

The new HP iPAQ rx1950 is a 4.4-ounce handheld with built-in Wi-Fi networking. It features Media Player and has a removable, rechargeable lithium-ion battery and 3.5-inch QVGA 64K color screen that can switch from portrait to landscape mode.

As with all Windows 5.0 units, the rx1950 offers improved synchronization over past models, faster access to e-mail and data, and new Word and Excel features such as document format support for Microsoft Word.

Other features include 96MB of memory, Samsung 300 MHz processor and Secure Digital (SD) slot.

HP also unveiled the iPaq's hx2000 corporate-aimed series that has been updated to run Windows 5.0.

Pricing and shipping information were not available at press time.

In other PDA news, Navman introduced a new Pocket PC PDA with built-in GPS. It offers turn-by-turn directions and integrates Pocket Outlook with navigation for advanced address-to-contact routing. It also offers rerouting when the user strays from the navigation path.

The Navman PiN 570 has a 3.5-inch LCD touch screen, with 65,000 colors and 240 by 320 resolution. It is powered by a Samsung 266MHz processor with 64MB of internal RAM. Map data is stored on a supplied 128MB memory card. The PiN 570 runs on Windows Mobile 2003, and has a pre-installed Microsoft Pocket PC Business Pack. It ships with a CD of U.S. maps at a suggested retail price of $499.95.
