Cingular Adds Wireless Picture Printing

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 9/26/2005

San Francisco—Cingular Wireless teamed with FujiFilm to offer consumers the ability to send camera phone images from select Cingular handsets to retail outlets for printing.

The service, called Fujifilm's Get The Picture Mobile service, is the first of its kind under the Cingular name, although AT&T Wireless, which Cingular bought, previously offered a similar service in cooperation with Fujifilm. Sprint Nextel also offers a similar service.

Cingular's service, which costs an additional $2.99 per month, works with 60 Cingular phones capable of downloading the Java application, which transmits images to participating Get the Picture Mobile retailers located by ZIP code.

The retailer either lets consumers pay for the prints in the store or type credit card info into the handset to pay via credit card.

Fujifilm also made improvements to Cingular's Mobile Postcard service, which uses select Motorola camera phones (V220, V400, V551, V600 and the V3 RAZR) create personalized postcards. Enhancements include a new wizard-style creation tool, a larger selection of postcard templates, new auto-address look up, auto-fill city/state information via ZIP code and a “recent addresses” format that allows users to make multiple postcards in a single session.

Postcards cost $1.99, including postage.
