CEA Plans Wire Gauge Standard

ARLINGTON, VA.— The Consumer Electronics Association’s (CEA) Technology and Standards’ Mobile Electronics Committee has created a new working group to define specifications for wire gauge and other cable aspects used in mobile entertainment.
The working group will define the acceptable amount of conductor to be associated with a published, printed or otherwise represented wire gauge, as well as educate industry professionals and consumers on how to qualify conforming cable.
The wire gauge working group is co-chaired by Jack DeBiasio, OEM project manager for Scosche Industries, and Keith Carter, senior project manager for Mitek . The first meeting of the working group was held on Sept. 1.
“Having a standard and perhaps an associated logo that would indicate the amount of conductive material in cables used for mobile applications will help manufacturers and consumers get the most from their mobile entertainment systems,” said DeBiasio.
