RocketPower's Introduces Battery Recharger Pack

By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 9/19/2005

Phoenix— OEM battery maker Klein Electronics introduced a portable battery pack at RetailVision last week that can recharge a variety of handheld devices, including MP3 players and cellphones.

The battery pack is being marketed under the Rocket Power brand name and is ready to ship. The pack comes with 25 interchangeable tips, enabling it to connect to most portable devices, said company CEO Richard Klein.

Klein said the charger, which weighs about 4 ounces, adapts its voltage output to match that of the device being charged. The 25 included tips should cover just about every available rechargeable product now on the market, Klein said.

The pack, which has not been picked up by a retailer, will carry a $99 suggested retail price. Rocket Power is a sub-brand under the company's Rocket Science label.

The cellphone-sized device holds enough power to recharge a device several times without itself needing to be recharged. A typical cellphone recharge takes about 45 minutes, Klein said. The battery pack needs about four hours to be recharged and can do so through an AC, car or USB adapter, all of which are supplied with the unit.

A larger, more powerful version for recharging notebook computers is under development, Klein said. The company is working on additional accessory products that will be marketed under the Rocket Science brand.
