SunBriteTV Unveils Outdoor LCD Panels

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 9/5/2005

Indianapolis— SunBriteTV, a Moorpark, Calif.-based startup affiliated with MPO Videotronics, will unveil at CEDIA two all-weather LCD TV monitors designed for permanent outdoor placement.

The LCD TVs include the currently shipping 20-inch 2010A-Pro EDTV and the 32W-inch 3200HD, which features full HDTV resolution and a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio.

Both models were designed to withstand extreme temperatures, rain, insects and dust. Bezels are made of water-tight, corrosion-resistant, powder-coated aluminum. Conformal coating on the internal electronics brings additional protection from humidity-related corrosion damage, the company said.

SunBriteTV's are baffled and filtered and feature a dual-fan airflow system, which quietly keeps the unit cool in temperatures up to 122 degrees.

For cooler climates, the sets feature an internal, thermostatically controlled heater, which activates automatically when the TV's internal temperature dips to 32 degrees. The heater provides a 20 degree temperature rise, allowing the TV to safely remain outdoors in temperatures as low as -24 degrees.

The SunBriteTV models also feature a watertight cable entry system that accepts a wide variety of input sources, including off-the-air antenna, cable TV, satellite TV, DVD players and PCs.

The 20-inch 2010A-Pro ($2,695 suggested retail) features a super-bright, 800 by 600 pixel image with 16.7 million colors. Brightness is rated at 1000 nits and the contrast ratio is said to be 500:1.

The 32W-inch 3200HD ($4,195 suggested retail) features a 1,366 by 768 pixel HDTV screen, offering 500 nits of brightness and an 800:1 contrast ratio. Both models are shipping now. SunBriteTV is also planning to deliver this fall a brighter 32W-inch model (3200HD-Pro) offering 1,000 nits performance.
