Optoma Bows 100W” 1,080p DLP

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 9/5/2005

INDIANAPOLIS— Optoma Technology will debut at CEDIA Expo its BigVizion customizable and modular 80W-inch and 100W-inch rear-projection DLP 1,080p HDTVs that can be either installed into a home theater or built into a wall.

The BigVizion models will be among the first “video wall” concepts to feature 1,080p resolution and ISF 3C modes, Optoma said.

Both displays utilize a single-mirror system with Texas Instruments' DLP chipset. In addition, the BigVizion cabinet design is said to enable some of the slimmest depths for the screen sizes. The 100W-inch model is estimated to have a 30-inch depth.

Features include IR pass-through for system integration, component video, DVI and HDMI inputs and a 5,000:1 contrast ratio.

Targeted for the professional installer market, the BigVizion will be shipped as a modular system. The BigVizion also comes with a customizable color scheme, allowing the bezel color to be changed to match a home owner's décor, the firm said.

Optoma will also introduce a high-performance digital projector for the office and corporate environments. The EP910 offers a new stylish design to fit into any office. It uses Texas Instruments' DarkChip3 DLP chipset producing a 1,400 by 1,050 pixel resolution, 10-bit per channel color and a 2,000:1 contrast ratio to deliver subtle color details.

Unit brightness is listed as 3,500 lumens. Inputs include DVI-I with HDCP, BNC (RBGHV/component video), component video, Ethernet and RS-232 communication. The unit weighs 10 pounds.

The Optoma EP910 will be available in Q1 2006 at a price to be announced.
