Brillian To Unveil 65W” 1,080p LCoS RPTV

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 9/5/2005

INDIANAPOLIS— Brillian will unveil at CEDIA Expo its 65W-inch 1,080p HDTV and media server video platform that will be the third model in its family of UltraContrast Gen II LCoS-based HDTVs.

Model 6580iFB, shipping in the fourth quarter at a $9,999 suggested retail, will produce full 1,920 by 1,080p native resolution and a contrast ratio of up to 4,000:1, the company said.

The HDTV set uses three 2-megapixel UltraContrast Gen II 1080p LCoS microdisplays, each dedicated to either red, green or blue color spectrum, resulting in a true 6-megapixel image when converged on the screen.

The solid-state light engine eliminates the need for motorized color wheels or spinning prisms.

The unit response time is listed as 7ms, reducing motion artifacts, and the 90 percent fill factor is said to eliminate the “screen door” effect found in many fixed-pixel displays.

The Brillian 6580iFB HDTV/Media Center video platform has a 21-inch cabinet depth and weighs 122 pounds.
