KEF Mount Hides Wires In Brackets

By Staff -- TWICE, 6/20/2005

Marlboro, N.J.— Selecta-mount speaker mounting system offers wall brackets for satellites and center speakers. The unit, from KEF America, incorporates male connectors that locate to the enclosure and automatically adjust speaker settings for wall mounting.

The KEF KHT 9000 satellite speakers feature a multidirectional base that makes it easy to place each speaker where it suits listeners, whether on a flat surface, at an angle on walls or on optional floor stands.

KEF offers both short and tall vertical stands that hold KHT speakers either vertically or horizontally, for center-channel use.

The stands and brackets house the speaker-cable connectors, and by choosing the wall-mount bracket or free-space stand, speakers can automatically be fine-tuned to suit the mounting type. Wall mounting boosts bass, but a speaker designed to compensate for that boost will sound anemic when placed away from the wall, said the company.

The wall mount and stand feature three metal strips that contact the back of each speaker differently, and thus activate different components inside the speaker. Using the wall mount triggers a filter that removes bass below 200 hertz and some of the midrange in the 700-hertz region.

Selecta-mount allows for wires to be kept out of sight, as these are contained by wall brackets and stands. Binding posts are found at the base of floor and tabletop stands. Easy connect terminals make for safe and fast installations, said KEF, which is a subsidiary of Britain-based KEF Audio.

Selecta-mount, which first became available last July as part of the KHT 9000, will be featured as part of the upcoming KHT 6000 system, set for June availability.

Suggested retails include $899 for the KHT 9000 satellite speaker, $199 for the LR floor stand, $149 for the LR tabletop stand, $199 for the center floor stand and $99 for the center tabletop stand.

The KHT 6000 speakers each have a $549 suggested retail, while the floor stands are $399 for a pair and the tabletop stands are $149 a pair.
