By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 1/22/2001

NEW YORK -In an online study conducted by Active Research in late-fall 2000, the great majority of respondents indicated they would soon be purchasing a portable digital audio player.

The poll of 716 people found that 71 percent planned to buy an MP3-type player within the next month. Another 4 percent said they would probably wait as long as six months before taking the plunge, but only 1 percent expressed no interest in buying a player, the study found.

Active Research also found that about 47 percent of the players will be shopped for and bought online. Of the remainder, 26 percent indicated their purchases would be made in a traditional stores, and another 26 percent said they were as likely to purchase online as offline.
