Gefen Introduces HDMI Solutions For System Options

By Staff -- TWICE, 4/18/2005

Woodland Hills, Calif. — Connectivity solutions provider Gefen is offering a DVI Booster, a small unit that corrects video signal degradation that occurs over stretches of DVI copper cables used to extend a display away from its high-definition source.

The DVI Booster, which both corrects cable faults from the video it receives and propels the fixed signal an additional distance, works with HDCP compliant content and DVI displays and cables. Suggested retail is $249.

New from Gefen is its FireWire Extender 800, a solution that extends computer-generated video for remote-powered performance. It works through a sender and receiver system that connects the local computer to the remote device with multimode fiber-optics cables.

The use of fiber-optics cabling combined with data packaging is what allows FireWire devices to perform as if connected directly to the source, said Gefen. Suggested retail is $799.

Gefen also has announced the addition of two high-definition audio/video switchers and an upgraded splitter to its line of home theater solutions. The new 2x2 and 6x2 switchers are said to provide greater integration options for HD systems, while the 1:2 HDMI splitter conforms to the latest HDMI standard 1.1 specifications.

Suggested retails are $349 for the 2x2 HDMI switcher, $899 for the 6x2 HDMI switcher, and $299 for the 1:2 HDMI splitter.
