URC Offers 2 New Remotes

Staff -- TWICE, 2/7/2005

Harrison, N.Y. — The Aurora MX-950 universal remote from Universal Remote Control combines in-depth programming resources with advanced IR/RF through-the-wall technology, rechargeable lithium-ion battery and an activity-based multicolor LCD screen.

The Aurora is equipped with a simple and intuitively-arranged set of the most-important button functions, plus 10 buttons labeled by an advanced multicolor LCD display. This allows programmers customization of button labels and gives users “find-by-feel” functionality. The custom button labels are back-lighted in any of six different programmable colors, and the display automatically lights up when the Aurora is picked up.

The Aurora can act as the “master” house remote, with up to 255 devices, each capable of displaying up to 255 pages of custom labeled buttons. The remote has a suggested $599.95 retail and can be used conventionally via line of sight or send commands through walls and doors when installed with an optional MRF-300 RF receiver base station, which has a suggested $199.95 retail. The Aurora shipped in January.

Another Universal Remote Control remote, the Osiris MX-350, which currently is shipping, is said to render new levels of programmability at a cost-effective price point. The unit operates in both IR and RF modes, making it “ideal” for conventional, stand-alone operation, or as the heart of a whole-house remote system when combined with the MRF-200 or MRF-3000 RF receiver base station.

Styled in metallic gray accents with silver and black buttons, the Osiris can replace up to 10 different remote controls and has a built-in library of over 1,000 codes. The LCD panel contrast can be adjusted and text labels can be customized. Suggested retail is $149.

Both the Aurora and Osiris made their debuts at International CES in Las Vegas last month.
