Optoma Introduces Plasma, DLP TVs

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 1/24/2005

LAS VEGAS — Optoma used International CES to show a range of new display products for its elite Sovereign line, including a 50W-inch high-definition plasma monitor, and a pair of high-definition rear-projection DLP HDTVs in the 65W-inch and 50W-inch screen sizes.

The company also showed an entry-level compact DLP front projector designed to appeal to a mass home-theater audience.

In high-definition plasma monitors, the company announced its model SVP5F, shipping this month at a $5,999 suggested retail. The 50W-inch panel offers a 1,366 by 768 screen resolution, 400 nits of brightness and a 3,000:1 contrast ratio.

Inputs include HD component video, DVI-HDCP and 15-pin D-sub.

In HDTV rear-projection HDTV displays, Optoma also showed 65W-inch and 50-inch models.

Optoma said it is currently shipping its 65W-inch SV65XF ($5,999 suggested retail).

The DLP rear-projection HDTV display features a non-reflective, fine-grade screen; 1,280 by 720p resolution from Texas Instruments' HD-2+ chip; a 2,500:1 contrast ratio; and 400 nits of brightness. Models offer 1 percent overscan performance and DVI/HDMI inputs, Optoma said.

The 50W-inch SV50XF (shipping now at a $3,999 suggested retail) features a non-reflective, fine-grade screen; 1,280 by 720p high-definition resolution from Texas Instruments' HD-2+ chip; a 2,500:1 contrast ratio; and 450 Nits of brightness. It adds two built-in 15-watt speakers, ISF certified calibration configuration, less than 1 percent overscan and HDMI-DVI input.

In front projection, Optoma presented its H27, shipping in April a $1,299 suggested retail, which features a single 0.54-inch Digital Micromirror Device DLP chip, with EDTV-level 854 by 480 pixel resolution, a 2,300:1 contrast ratio and 800-1,000 lumens of brightness.
