TDK Announces Expanded DVD Media Line

Garden City, N.Y.— TDK is featuring an expanded media line, including its new 16x DVD+R and 16x DVD-R discs that are designed to maximize DVD burner performance and eliminate hassles by providing the highest speed and reliability discs possible.

The two products, which will begin shipping in early 2005, are suited for a wide variety of applications, ranging from recording home videos and digital photos to backing up large files.

Also in the expanded product lineup is TDK's Digital Hollywood DVD and Metal DVD media.

Hollywood is available in two “colorful” design styles, including classic cinema themes and classic theatrical icons. Discs are available in five-piece and 10-piece packs or 25-piece spindles, and in both write-once DVD+R and DVD-R formats. These will come into the market in early 2005 at estimated street prices of $8.99 for the five-pack, $17.99 for the 10-pack and $24.99 for a 25-piece spindle.

Metal DVD media features three different “all metal” colored discs — gold, silver and bronze. These are designed to store data, video, photos or music. Available in write-once DVD+R and DVD-R formats, the discs also will be in the marketplace in early 2005 at estimated street prices of $5.25 for a three-pack, $10.49 for a six-pack and $11.99 for a 12-piece spindle.

The company's new Video DVD, specifically designed for home DVD video recorders, allows users to record all television, cable and satellite programs and movies directly to DVD. Discs also can be used for archiving photos and transferring home camcorder videos and VHS tapes. Discs are available in DVD+R and DVD-R write-once formats and in re-recording or rewritable DVD+RW and DVD-RW formats.

The Video DVD discs will be available early in 2005 at estimated street prices of $6.99 per five-pack and $44.99 for a 50-piece spindle.

TDK Video DVD-/+RW also will ship in early 2005 at $9.99 per five-pack and $22.49 for a 25-piece spindle.

Already available is TDK's 8cm Armor Plated DVD and Designer DVC digital tape. The 8cm discs provide protection against scratches, while the DVC tapes come in three colors and designs. Both products join the company's line of camcorder media solutions.

Rated for recording speed at up to 2x speed, the 8cm Armor Plated DVD media with UV protection comes in the DVD-R format for an estimated street price of $8.99 each. Without the UV protection, discs are $11.99 each. Designer DVC media is available at $24.99 per 3-pack.
