DingoTel To Offer FRS/GMRS VoIP

By Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, 12/20/2004

MARIETTA, Ga.—DingoTel will announce next month the availability of a two-way radio adapter that allows FRS/GRMS users to talk to each other for free over the Internet, even if they are located thousands of miles apart.

The DingoTel 2Way connects almost any FRS or GMRS radio to a computer and then transmits the user's voice over the Internet via a Voice over IP network (VoIP). But, once connected, users can then take their radios and wander within the range of the radio (up to 10 miles, 12 miles or 14 miles) from the computer. The device effectively turns an FRS/GMRS into a long distance, super-long-range cordless phone as users can call anyone anywhere in the world, providing the second party is also on the DingoTel network.

The DingoTel 2Way adapter plugs into a standard USB jack. A two-way radio that supports an earpiece or microphone connects to the adapter using the provided cable. The 2Way software works like most instant messaging programs using a buddy list, said the company.
