Denison Enters High-Tech Car Audio

By Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, 12/20/2004

LONG BEACH, Calif.— Denison USA is a two-year-old company, here, that is offering cutting edge car audio products including a new iPod interface kit, and a new hard drive-based MP3/radio.

Denison is replacing its key product, an iPod car adapter called the ice Link, with a new ice Link:Plus that is now able to display iPod album and artist information on many radios. The ice Link: Plus comes in different customized versions to interface with most aftermarket and OEM radios. It offers a direct line-in connection through the head units' CD changer port to play back songs through the car stereo system.

The ice Link: Plus comes with a docking cradle kit and the proper harnesses for the radio. It also works with all versions of the iPod, says the company, and has a suggested list price of $199.

Also from Denison is a DIN-sized, removable hard drive based MP3/radio. The DH100ix is an FM receiver with a removable internal 20GB to 80GB hard drive. The faceplate folds down, allowing the hard drive/cartridge to be removed. It can then connect to a PC via a 2.0 USB port. The DH100ix has a large LCD display with a cursor pad. It claims “near instant” track to track transitions and offers several search and playback options.

The DH100ix has built-in 35-watt x 4 power, four channel pre-outs, CD/DVD changer support and a choice of 16 colors for the display and keypad. List prices include $699 for the 40GB model and $899 for the 80GB version.

Denison currently sells through MacIntosh resellers as well as direct to over 200 12-volt stores including Al & Ed's, said the company. The ice Link made its debut at MacWorld this year, and the company plans to display at CES in January.
