Nikada Lands Target.com

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 12/20/2004

SHORT HILLS, N.J. — Nikada, a start-up U.S. consumer electronics maker, has reached a deal to have its lines of high-definition plasma and LCD TVs, and portable MP3 players carried by Target.com, the company announced.

The first product deliveries are scheduled for January 2005, although Target.com has already added Nikada product and pricing information to its Web site, the company said.

“We provide a level of quality, value and customer service to retailers and consumers that is unique in the market,” said Albert Wu, Nikada's president. “Retailers have a lot of brands to choose from, and we appreciate Target's decision to offer Nikada products.

“After a close look at Nikada, we have a lot of confidence in the company and see their product line having strong appeal to Target guests,” said Lee Goehring, Target.com's electronics senior merchant, in a statement announcing the deal.

Wu said Target is carrying four models of high-definition LCD TV monitors with screen sizes starting at 20 inches, one enhanced-definition plasma monitor and three models of portable MP3 players.

The entry level LD1201 LCD TV will carry a $799.99 minimum advertised price (MAP).

Model LD1261, which features a 26W-inch screen size, will sell for a $2,199.99 MAP. The 30W-inch, LD1301, is priced at $2,799.99, and the 32W-inch LD1321 is priced at $3,499.99.

The plasma TV features an enhanced-definition 42W-inch screen and is priced at a $2,999.99 MAP.

The three MP3 players, which all feature voice recorders, have storage capacity ranging from 128MB to 256MB. Their minimum advertised prices range from $99.99 (model MPD311) to $149.99 (models MPD421 and MPD521).
