Atlanta— Cingular plans October availability of its first quad-band BlackBerry world phone, the 7290. The initial price is $149 with two-year contract.
The Bluetooth-equipped 7290 features traditional BlackBerry PDA-style form factor and operates on 850/900/1,800/1,900 MHz networks. Besides quad-band capability, other improvements over existing PDA-style BlackBerry models offered by Cingular include a new-style QWERTY keyboard with highlighted number keys for easy dialing; increased memory to 32MB flash memory; and 4MB SRAM.
BlackBerry marketer Research In Motion offers one other quad-band GSM/GPRS phone in the U.S.: the 7100t. The 7100t, however, features a phone form factor, while the 7290 features a more traditional PDA-style look.
