Thomson To Acquire Technology Firm Gyration
Indianapolis — French consumer electronics maker Thomson has signed an agreement to acquire Gyration, developer of a line of user-interface devices using proprietary technology based on gyroscopes. Thomson will use the technology within its own business, notably as remote controls for its set-top boxes and accessories activities. Gyration had sales of $14 million in 2003, and the deal is expected to close in the third quarter.
Infinity Serves As Official Sponsor For Rod Stewart Tour
Woodbury, N.Y. — High-performance loudspeaker and infotainment systems maker Infinity Sound Systems played official sponsor for musician Rod Stewart's concert tour of 37 cities in North America this summer. Infinity had a highly visible presence at all 37 stops, being featured on signage, as well as on programs, tickets, advertising and other media. In addition, a video featuring Infinity home and car audio products was presented during intermission at each concert.
Weather Channel Extends Weather Device Sales To Retailers
Atlanta — Weather Channel-brand weather instruments are set for sale at major retailers. Brand licensee La Crosse Technology said it has completed deals with a variety of retailers to sell the Weather Channel line of advanced technological electronic weather devices, beginning this fall. These include wireless weather and temperature stations, a professional weather center and projection alarm clocks with weather forecasts. The products, available in a range of prices, feature sleek, stylish designs and deliver real-time local weather conditions and atomic-accuracy local time. La Crosse said it is counting on Weather Channel name recognition and trust factor for success of its line launch.
