SAN DIEGO — Sony announced today that it will ship a new DVD camcorder in October by upgrading an existing model through the addition of a larger LCD.

Sony’s Handycam DCR-DVD301 will sport a 3.5-inch LCD screen and offer the same video feature set as the existing DVD201, including Super SteadyShot stabilization, an InfoLithium battery with the AccuPower System, USB 2.0 connectivity, a 10x optical/120x digital zoom and NightShot Plus for low-light recording.

Other features include a 1-megapixel CCD sensor and 1-megapixel still image capture.

The 301’s LCD can rotate 270 degrees and features a start/stop record button on the frame.

The DVD301 will have an estimated retail price of $1,100. The DVD201 is currently available for $1,000.
