Sima Offers Enhancer For DVD Backups

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 6/21/2004

OAKMONT, PA. — Accessories supplier Sima Products, based here, has introduced a new video-enhancement device, designed to clean up the look of low-quality videos before transfer onto a recordable DVD, and will enable "fair-copy" backup recording of DVD movies.

Sima's "GoDVD!" digital video enhancer was designed to simplify the process of making good quality DVD copies of videos from any source (VCR, camcorder or DVD player). The device connects between the source device and a DVD recorder through analog composite video terminals.

Because the device is designed to record the analog output of DVD movies, GoDVD! enables owners of pre-recorded DVD and VHS movies to make "fair use" backup copies on recordable DVD discs.

"There are more than one billion home videos sitting in people's homes, with a shelf life of less than 20 years. Sima created the GoDVD! enhancer to help preserve those treasures onto the longer lasting DVD medium, so they can be viewed for years to come," said Doug Marrison, Sima's president. "And through enhanced technology, GoDVD! actually improves and restores images that may have suffered due to frequent use, age or poor storage conditions."

The GoDVD! enhancer stabilizes video signals to reduce video sync noise and other artifacts and is compatible with S-VHS, VHS-C, VHS, 8mm and DVD signal sources.

The device offers four output signal enhancement modes: normal, enhanced, darker and black/white. Additionally, as the U.S. population continues to become more multi-cultural, many will find that GoDVD! will support both U.S. (NTSC)and international (PAL) video formats.

"Now families who want to share their video memories overseas can do so easily," said Marrison.

Sima sees the top use for the device as an enhancement tool for home video enthusiasts looking to edit down their camcorder movies. Consumers can edit directly onto a DVD disc using the device, saving time and money while improving image quality.

The GoDVD! is currently available at a $129.95 suggested retail price in select consumer electronics outlets, including Best Buy, Comp USA, Ultimate Electronics, Lifestyle Fascination and Shop at Home.
