Lake Success, N.Y.— Canon introduced two new CP compact photo printers to its lineup last week, adding a new paper size to the mobile dye sublimation units.
The printers, the CP-220 and the CP-330, can produce prints in three different paper sizes, including 4-inch by 6-inch postcards, credit-card size pictures and a new 4-inch by 8-inch size through a paper tray. The tray will be bundled with the CP-330 and sold separately as an accessory to the CP-220 for a suggested retail price of $19.99. The new 4 by 8 paper will be available in 24-sheet packs together with an ink ribbon cartridge for a suggested retail of $19.99.
Canon said the new printers can create postcard-sized color prints in approximately 85 seconds and are dubbing the units as "85-second photo labs" that can produce water and fade resistant prints that last as long as traditional film prints.
The CP-330 features a rechargeable battery pack allowing it to function as a mobile printer, with 90 minutes of operation when fully charged.
The CP-220 unit can be portable with the included AC power plug.
Both printers are PictBridge-enabled and can make passport-style prints or ID photos of various sizes on 4-inch by 6-inch paper directly from select Canon PowerShot digital cameras incorporating the company's Direct Print feature.
The CP-330 is currently shipping for an estimated street price of $279. The CP-220 will ship this month for an estimated street price of $179. Canon will also sell a custom designed Printer Carrying Bag CPB-100 to compliment the 330 and 220 for a suggested retail price of $34.99.
