Energizer To Debut 'World's First' AAA Lithium Battery

By Staff -- TWICE, 5/3/2004

St. Louis— In an effort to offer consumers long-lasting power alternatives, Energizer will be making a late summer introduction of its e2 lithium AAA battery, said to be the "world's first" AAA lithium cell.

Called the longest-lasting AAA battery in high-tech devices, such as digital cameras, the e2 provides up to 167 pictures, compared with 22 when cameras use ordinary alkaline batteries, said the company.

The new batteries also will last seven times longer in digital cameras, compared with ordinary alkaline cells, and provide "superior performance" in all high-tech devices, said Energizer. In flash units, consumers can expect 400 more flashes.

In addition to the power advantages, the e2 AAA lithium batteries are said to be 33 percent lighter than alkaline cells, and operate better in extreme temperatures where alkaline cells would fail. Shelf life is 15 years.

The new AAA batteries, which will be available in August in recloseable packaging, join the company's AA cells. The lithium AA 4-pack has a suggested $9.99 retail, and the AAA types will be priced accordingly, said Energizer.
