Crystal View Offers Plasma 'Sound-Art'

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 4/19/2004

AMBLER, PA.— High-end video-display manufacturer Crystal View is now offering a custom bezel with integrated high-end loudspeaker array for a pair of its plasma-display monitors.

Called Sound-Art, the system uses an extended bezel around the picture frame to place a "high-end loudspeaker system" in plasma models CVP-43 and CVP-50.

The Sound-Art design is said to provide custom installers with an audio-video plasma display package not found in other product lines.

The Crystal View CVP-43 HD and CVP-50HD plasma displays are both available with the Sound-Art solution for a suggested retail price of $12,995 and $16,995, respectively. A clear-coated, black gloss finish is standard; however, a wide range of custom colors and finishes is also available.

The Sound-Art system was developed in collaboration between Crystal View and Snell Acoustics and utilizes a two-way speaker approach. Each side of Sound-Art integrates two 5.25-inch woofers and a one-inch aluminum dome tweeter, arranged in a D'Appolito Array, named for Snell's chief engineer. A center-channel option is now available.

The speaker performance ranges from 70Hz to 20KHz at levels up to 103dB, using amplifiers from 25 watts to 150 watts.

Sound-Art's frame matches the 3.875 depth of the Crystal View plasma display panels. The speaker enclosures use Snell's Quiet Box technology, in which inner and outer cabinet layers sandwich a damping layer of Noise Killer for a high level of structural integrity and smooth bass response.

Crystal View is also offering an enhanced version of Sound-Art that integrates a center channel speaker into the stereo loudspeaker bezel.
