Income Tax Software Tops NPD List

By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 3/22/2004

Port Washington, N.Y.— With the April 15 income tax deadline fast approaching, consumers are buying tax software at a quick clip, according to data from The NPD Group.

Seven of the top 10 selling software titles for the week, ended Feb. 28, were tax-related, with Intuit's TurboTax 2003 Deluxe and TurboTax 2003 Multi State placing first and second on the list. Block Financial's Taxcut 2003 Deluxe and Taxcut 2003 State also made the list. The remaining three financial titles came from Intuit.

Computer safety was also at the forefront of consumers' minds. Their purchases made Symantec's Norton Antivirus 2004 and Internet Security 2004 top sellers. Rounding out the top 10 was Microsoft's Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade.

The top selling game title for the week was Activision Call of Duty. In the business software segment Microsoft's Office 2003 Student/Teacher Edition was tops, while in home education it was Riverdeep Interactive's Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing 15.0.
