Panasonic, PNY To Ship miniSD

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 3/8/2004

NEW YORK— The miniSD format gained two large patrons with the recent announcements by Panasonic and PNY to support and ship the diminutive flash card in 2004.

Principally aimed at multimedia cellphones and PDAs, miniSD cards are based on the SD-card platform in only 40 percent of the volume.

Panasonic said it would ship miniSD in three capacity sizes — 32MB, 64MB and 128MB – in May for a suggested retail price of $34.99, $44.99 and $79.99, respectively.

PNY announced that it would start miniSD shipments in the second quarter of the year in capacities from 16MB to 256MB. The company also announced support for Reduced Size MultiMedia cards (RS-MMC), another tiny card geared toward multimedia cellphones.
