Fujitsu Bows New 'e-ALiS' PDPs

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 1/26/2004

LAS VEGAS— Fujitsu General America showed dealers at CES its largest plasma-display panel to date in the 63W-inch P63XHA30WS and the industry's first 55W-inch model featuring Extended Alternate Lighting of Surfaces (e-ALiS) technology in the P55XHA30WS.

Also shown were three upgraded versions of Fujitsu's plasma display monitors, in the 50-inch P50XHA30WS, 42-inch P42HHA30WS, and 42-inch P42VHA30WS.

The P63XHA30WS features 1,366-by-768 HDTV resolution and adds DVI-D digital input.

The P55XHA30WS employs Fujitsu's e-AliS system, which extends the company's Alternate Lighting of Surfaces (ALiS) technology with a progressive-pixel line-display capability and an increased 1,000 cd/m2 brightness level. Images were said to be much sharper and colors are more accurate. Resolution is also 1,366 by 768.

Both the P55XHA30WS and the P63XHA30WS employ 10-bit signal processing for each of the panel's R, G and B input signals, resulting in 1.07 billion-color capability. The P63XHA30WS Plasmavision SlimScreen monitor will be available this month for a suggested retail price of $24,999, while the P55XHA30WS carries a $14,999 suggested retail.
