Visioneer Ships New Photo Scanner

Staff -- TWICE, 12/22/2003

PLEASANTON, CALIF.— Visioneer announced a new addition to its Slimline scanner series, the Visioneer OneTouch 9120 USB color flatbed scanner.

The 9120 ships this month for a suggested retail price of $99.99.

The OneTouch 9120 features 2,400 by 4,800 optical resolution, which the company says can turn a 4-by-6-inch print into a 32-by-48-inch enlargement with no loss of detail. It also features 48-bit internal color and FlashBack bi-directional AutoScan technology, for two-way scanning.

With the FlashBack AutoScan enabled, the scanner moves one way to prescan the image area, automatically crops to the edges of the photo, then reverses direction and completes the final high resolution scan on the return trip, eliminating the second pass during autocrop scanning.

The unit offers five "OneTouch" buttons: scan, copy, OCR, e-mail, and a custom setting, that are pre-configured at the optimal settings for these specific scanner functions. Holding down a OneTouch button brings up the scan setting interface on a user's computer which the user can then change or customize.

The OneTouch 9120 also incorporates the company's Scan Manager Pro, an advanced TWAIN driver which includes multi-level zoom (activated by rolling the mouse wheel), an eyedropper for selecting blackpoint, midpoint and whitepoint; and curve editing with dynamic histogram, hue and saturation adjustments as well as output scaling.

The scanner ships with ScanSoft's PaperPort SE 8.0 with built-in TextBridge Pro OCR and ArcSoft's PhotoImpression 3.0 imaging editor software for managing digital images. It connects to a PC via USB 2.0.
