By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 9/1/2003

Indianapolis— Toshiba will unveil at CEDIA Expo the MT-800 HD-grade DLP front projector, based on Texas Instrument's HD2 "Mustang" DMD technology and Carl Zeiss optics.

The MT-800, which is slated to ship in the fall at a $7,999.99 suggested retail price, is the company's second-generation DLP projector using the HD2 chip. The new model maintains the key features of its previous MT8, and offers an all-glass high-focus lens system from German manufacturer Carl Zeiss. Toshiba said the unit produces an improved color corrected contrast ratio of 2,200:1 and 1,000 ANSI lumens of brightness.

Also slated is a Toshiba's full lineup of flat-panel TVs with screen sizes ranging from 14-42W inches. The flat-panel mix includes both 4:3 and 16:9 displays in both LCD and plasma technologies.

All plasma models offer 16:9 screen sizes, while LCD TVs offer a mix of 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios, depending on screen size.

Widescreen LCD models will include the 26W-inch and 32W-inch screen sizes, both with 1,280 by 768 resolution. Meanwhile, Toshiba's new plasma model, the 42HP83, has a panel resolution of 1,024 by 768 and a contrast ratio of 1,000:1.

Smaller LCD panels include the 14-inch and 20-inch screen sizes.

Toshiba will also present its previously announced lineup of fully integrated rear-projection HDTV sets from the company's Cinema Series. All of the integrated models include both ATSC and QAM tuners.
