Toshiba Shipping A Notebook With 17-In. LCD Screen

By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 7/7/2003

IRVINE, CALIF.— Toshiba released its first 17-inch LCD-equipped notebook computer, the Satellite P25-S507.

The notebook uses a full Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz processor with Hyper-Threading Technology. The notebook is not bundled with the Windows Media Center operating system, but due to its large screen, DVD-R/RW drive and Harmon/Kardon speaker system is still being billed as an entertainment notebook PC. Toshiba said the P25-S507 is a result of research that indicates consumers want entertainment features not just in a full-size PC or in standalone CE products, but in a mobile computing platform so they can be used away from the home office. To give the P25-S507 a look befitting such a device, Intel chose a new dark blue metallic design.

Other features include 512MB of RAM, 60GB hard drive, NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 graphics card with 32MB of memory, 802.11a/b wireless capability and four USB 2.0 ports.

It started shipping last week with a suggested retail of $2,099.
