Dell Printers Hit Shelves

By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 4/7/2003

Round Rock, Texas— The Dell/Lexmark partnership bore its first fruit with Dell's introduction of four printers.

Dell and Lexmark inked a deal last September that initially had Dell selling Lexmark-branded printers, with plans to co-develop a printer line with Dell that would carry that brand name. The product rollout contains one inkjet-based all-in-one model and three laser printers. The all-in-one and entry-model laser devices are targeted at the consumer, while the remaining two laser printers are for the enterprise market.

Dell reported the Dell Personal All-in-One A940 is now available with a $139 suggested retail price. It features copier, scanner, inkjet printing and faxing capabilities with 17 pages per minute (ppm) text print speed and 12ppm color printing. The entry-level laser printer starts with the Dell Personal Laser Printer P1500. It carries a $289 suggested retail price with 19ppm print speed and 1,200dpi resolution.

The Dell Workgroup laser line contains the S2500 and S2500n models. These has respective suggested prices of $499 and $839.

Dell also unveiled a line of branded inkjet and laser toner cartridges to equip its new printers.

The analyst firm Trend Survey Research believe Dell could push into printer giant Hewlett-Packard market share, particularly if consumers continue their trend of mainly buying printers as part of PC system packages.
