Verbatim Shipping 4x DVD+R Media

By Staff -- TWICE, 3/24/2003

Charlotte, N.C.— Verbatim is making available its new 4x-speed DataLifePlus 4.7GB DVD+R media. Street price is $4.

At 4x speed, a 4.7GB DVD+R disc can be filled to capacity in about 15 minutes. Hewlett-Packard, NEC, Philips, Sanyo, Sony and TDK have announced drives that support the 4x DVD+R speeds.

For consumers, Verbatim says the 4x write speed means they can save a tremendous amount of time because they will be cutting their recording period substantially. Consumers also can benefit from the broad compatibility of the DVD+R format.

Verbatim also is making available its 4.7GB DVD+R multicolored discs in color-matched DVD Super Jewel Box cases. Available in 5-packs, the DataLifePlus DVD+R discs and DVD video-sized jewel boxes are sold in five vibrant colors — red, blue, yellow, green and purple.

Like Verbatim's standard write-once DVD+R discs, the multicolored types have a 2.4x recording speed and can be played back by the vast majority of DVD-ROM drives and DVD video players used today.

The company also is making available a 10-pack of Super Jewel Box CD/DVD storage cases with two jewel boxes of each color. Designed to fit in most DVD video racks, the color-matched Super Jewel Box measures the same height as a VHS cassette and the same thin profile as a standard jewel case.

The 5-pack multicolored DVD+R media has a street price of about $19.99. The 10-pack Super Jewel Box CD/DVD storage case has a street price of $9.99.
