Report: Panasonic No. 1 In PDP

By Staff -- TWICE, 2/10/2003

AUSTIN, Texas— Panasonic held the top market share in U.S. plasma TV sales, according to a new report released by Audio/Visual market research group TFCinfo Corp.

According to TFCinfo's "U.S. Plasma Market Analysis Report," Panasonic held the lead in unit sales of Plasma Displays for the U.S. consumer market in the third quarter of 2002, garnering a 16 percent market share, while Philips came in number two position.

NEC, meanwhile, led in unit sales of plasma displays for the U.S. business plasma market for the same period with a 24 percent market share, followed by Panasonic, the study said.

Within the consumer plasma use category, TFCinfo analyzes the specialty retail market quadrant and the larger CE retail market quadrant. Within the business plasma use category, TFCinfo analyzes the business presentation market quadrant and the public display market quadrant using point-of-sale data for the most accurate picture of trends and forecasts.

Combining all four plasma market quadrants, TFCinfo's US Plasma Market Analysis Report concludes that Panasonic is the overall U.S. leader in Plasma because of their balanced participation in all four market quadrants.
