LAS VEGAS— Targus is introducing an entire line of backpacks designed specifically with today's laptop and tablet PC users in mind.
The 16 backpacks, which debuted at CES, offer innovative protection systems, a weight distribution rack, ergonomic shoulder straps and a well-thought series of pockets and compartments, Targus said.
The entry-level price point and most basic case in the lineup is Pulse, which features a protective computer compartment, extra pockets for accessories, a padded cellphone case and a padded case for portable CD or MP3 player, with a headphone wire hole for output. Suggested retail is $39.99.
Dual-functioning Slam backpacks have the same features as the Pulse, with added space for files, books and personal accessories. The main differentiating feature is a front compartment that detaches and turns into a sling-style case, for use when not carrying the laptop. Suggested retail is $59.99.
Matrix is the upper echelon of student-style laptop backpacks, with a spacious main compartment large enough for a day's worth of class books and files. Additional features include two other large compartments, an independent cellphone case that clips to the shoulder strap and a padded smaller compartment for smaller electronics equipment. It also has a set of stretchable gear straps to pin anything to the outside, from a windbreaker to a water bottle. Suggested retail is $69.99.
The Sport line is now available in one additional color. Suggested retail is $69.99 for the Standard; $89.99 for the Deluxe.
