HP Adds Pavilion, Presario PC And Notebooks

By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 1/20/2003

LAS VEGAS— Hewlett-Packard used the International CES as the backdrop for the introduction of several Compaq Presario notebook computers.

Expected to hit store shelves imminently are the Pavilion 504n, 514n and 734n and Presario 6400nx, 6410nx, 6420nx and 6430nx desktops. The major change with this line refresh is all HP desktops now come equipped with CD-RW drives, a company spokeswoman said.

The Pavilion 504n, $519 suggested retail price, features a Celeron 2GHz chip, 40GB hard drive and 128MB of RAM. The 514n, $599 suggested retail price, adds a Celeron 2.2GHZ chip, 60GB hard drive and 256MB of RAM. The 734n, $799 suggested retail price, has an AMD Athlon XP 2200 chip, 80GB hard drive and 512MB of RAM.

The entry-level Presario is the 6400nx, suggested retail price $499. It uses an Athlon 1800 processor, 128MB of RAM and 40GB hard drive. For an additional $90 the 6410nx offers a Athlon 2000 chip, 256MB of RAM and a 60GB hard drive. The 6420nx, $669 suggested retail price, bumps up the processing speed with the Athlon 2200 and comes with an 80GB hard drive. The 6430nx, $849 suggested retail price, has an Athlon 2600 processor, 120GB hard drive and 512MB of RAM. All the Presario models come with an empty AGP port so gamers can upgrade the graphics card.

On the notebook side are the new Compaq Presario 2100 and 2500 series. The 2100 series is available in several configurations with a starting suggested retail price of $899. The basic model is 1.5-inches thick and weighs just under 7 pounds. The 2500 is also a configure to order series that starts with an Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz processor. A 15-inch TFT LCD, ATI Mobility Radeon graphics card and 1394 ports are all optional. The starting suggested retail price is $1,399.
