Norcent To Launch Full Slate Of PC Peripheral Products

By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 1/20/2003

Las Vegas— Norcent Technology, a China-based OEM of CE and PC equipment, will flesh out its U.S. retail offering this year.

The company entered the market in August 2002 with a DVD player, DVD home theater kits and CD-RW drives and plans to add LCD monitors and TVs, plasma TVs, an all-in-one PC, laptop computers, rewritable DVD drives and cordless telephones. Norcent's initial offerings sell through Wal-Mart and Best Buy, and its retailer list will be expanded this year. Pricing and availability have not been set for any of the new products.

The PC has a 17-inch TFT LCD and an Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz processor. It comes with a wireless mouse and keyboard, a DVD/CD-RW drive, 512MB of RAM, 1394 and USB ports, Ethernet networking and an S-Video connection. The company will introduce rewritable DVD drives in both the DVD+RW and DVD-RW formats. These will be external units that connect to a PC via a USB 2.0 and feature write speeds of 2x for DVD-R, 1x for DVD-RW and 2x for DVD+R/+RW.
