Crimestopper Debuts Vehicle Locator

Staff -- TWICE, 12/23/2002

SIMI VALLEY, CALIF. — Crimestopper is entering the vehicle locator market with its new TrakNet TN-4000 integrated GPS tracking and security system. The company will show, at International CES, the system that allows live Internet tracking of a vehicle and also notifies users if the vehicle is stolen.

When the TrakNet's security system is breached a call center is automatically notified. The center then contacts the car owner by phone, pager or e-mail. TrakNet allows users to remotely start the car (with a remote option) and lock and unlock doors, as well as other remote features. TrakNet is expected to begin shipping in January 2003 at a suggested retail of $795 with a monthly service starting at $6.

Also new from Crimestopper is a two-way security-only system (without remote start). Called the 2004TW1, it is a step down from the company's Informer. It has an LED vs. LCD readout and is expected to ship in the first quarter at a suggested retail of $299.95.
