Panasonic Latest To Package 2 Handsets In Multihandset System

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 12/9/2002

SECAUCUS, N.J.— Panasonic has begun for the first time to package two handsets with its expandable multihandset cordless-phone systems, joining Vtech, Uniden and Thomson/ATLINKS (GE).

Panasonic is offering two systems with two handsets: the TripleTalk KX-TG2352 and KX-TG2382 at suggested retails of $129.95 and $149.95, respectively. These GigaRange-series 2.4GHz Frequency Hoping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) systems replace the KX-TG1000N and KX-TG1050N.

"We're trying to make people aware of the benefits" of expandable cordless phone systems, said national product manager Wayne Borg.

Both systems come with a base station/charger, a charger for the second handset, and the two handsets. An optional third handset (the $59.95-suggested KX-TGA230) can share the systems' built-in phone directories and caller ID memory with one-touch dialer.

Each handset functions as a speakerphone and offers three-way conferencing between two handsets and an outside caller.

The phones are also caller ID compatible with a three line back-lit LCD display. The handset's LCD provides users with access to phone numbers saved in the system's 30 name/number caller ID memory, which features instant callback capability. The LCD displays "line in use" and other icons for system status.

These new systems also save frequently dialed phone numbers in an alphabetical directory. A navigator key allows users to scroll through information saved in the phones' directories and caller ID memory, set the handset and ringer volume, or program the telephone for other functions.

The step-up model KX-TG2382B has a built-in digital answering machine with 15 minutes of recording time for incoming and outgoing messages.

The optional KX-TGA230 handset features call waiting/caller ID with 30-station memory, handset speakerphone, three-way conferencing, line status indicator, three line back-lit handset LCD, 30-station phone directory and dialer, two-way intercom, six selectable ring tones, and is wall mountable.

Both systems and the optional handset are available in black or white.
