Sharp Unveils 2nd Gen DLP Projector

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 9/30/2002

MINNEAPOLIS— SharpVision used CEDIA to unveil its second-generation high definition DLP front projector.

The SharpVision XV-Z10000U uses the Mustang/HD-2 DLP chip and Sharp's "upgraded proprietary Computer & Video Integrated Composer (CV-IC 11) System technology."

"We believe the design professionals at CEDIA will appreciate its enhanced functionality, flexible installation and incredible ease of use," said Michael Amkreutz, Sharp display devices director.

The XV-Z10000U has a 16:9 aspect ratio and a native resolution of 1,280 by 720 pixels. New is a switchable contrast/brightness function that significantly enhances the unit's contrast performance.

The second-generation CV-IC II system employs a proprietary video scaler to upconvert standard definition signals to the projector's native HD resolution.

Also added is a DVI input terminal with the High Definition Content Protection (HDCP) protocol, to ensure compatibility with new and forthcoming DTV set-top decoders and other digital signal sources.

Additional features include a 6-segment, 5x color wheel, 1:1.35 manual zoom and a lens shift function.

The SharpVision XV-Z10000U will ship to dealers in December at a $10,995.95 suggested retail price.
