HP Improves Two Presario Lines

PALO ALTO, CALIF. — Hewlett-Packard's Compaq Presario brand announced several new options for the Presario 6000 and 8000 lines. The 6000 is now offered with Intel Celeron 1.7GHz and 1.8GHz processors with a starting suggested retail price of $749, which includes a 15-inch CRT monitor. The high-end 8000 line is available with Pentium 4 2.66GHz and 2.8GHz processors with street prices of $1,349 and $1,499 for each model, respectively. Other new options for both lines include a 48x CD-RW drive and 12x DVD+RW/R combination drive.

Princeton Ships 19-inch LCD

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CALIF. — Princeton Graphics has started shipping a 19-inch LCD monitor. The SENergy 981 features a TFT display, 170-degree viewing angle and it takes over as the flagship model in the company's SENergy line, which consists of 15-, 17.4- and 18.1-inch displays. The 981 is intended for use in CAD/CAM environments, but will sell through retail with a suggested price of $1,249.

Belkin Ships Internal Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Hub

COMPTON, CALIF. — Belkin last week started shipping its new internal Hi-Speed USB 2.0 hub to retail. The four-port hub carries a $39.95 suggested retail price and is fitted into a standard 3.5-inch component bay.

Verbatim Readies 24x CD-RW Media

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Verbatim this month will start shipping its Ultra Speed CD-RW discs, which have rated rewrite speeds in the 16x to 24x range, the company reported. At top speed the media can absorb 3.5MB of data per second. The discs will ship this month with a $1.49 per disc suggested retail price.

Best Buy Adds Notebook To vpr Matrix Line

New York— Best Buy will add a notebook computer SKU to its house-branded vpr Matrix line this fall, according to comments made CEO Brad Anderson at the Goldman Sachs Global Retailing Conference last week. The vpr Matrix line was officially rolled out this summer with the introduction of three desktop computers.
