Radio Powered By 'Windup,' Battery

Staff -- TWICE, 7/22/2002

London— The Freeplay Energy Group, here, has teamed with Coleman to produce the Outrider radio, powered by Freeplay's self-sufficient energy technology.

The lightweight Coleman-brand Outrider radio offers a choice of rechargeable battery or windup power. The unit is designed for maximum user flexibility, even under extreme conditions, and features a built-in winder handle for use when electrical outlets are unavailable or in case of emergency.

The compact and stylishly ergonomic Coleman Outrider AM/FM radio weighs just-under two pounds and will operate for 25 hours when fully charged. On average, 30 seconds of winding will provide about 35 minutes of playtime at normal volume.

An extendable antenna ensures optimal reception, and an LED charge level indicator designates the best speed to wind. The radio also may be charged by solar power in direct sunlight through a solar panel on top of the radio.

Suggested retail is $49.99.
