Need For Speed

NEW YORK — The Hewlett-Packard Pavilion 7955 was one of the hot sellers for Nebraska Furniture Mart in December, and PC buyer Tom Peal attributed this to the model's Intel Pentium 4 processor.
"What really helped it was it was one of the first out there with the P4 1.5 GHz processor," he said.
The other attractive options were the dual DVD-ROM/CD-RW drives tied to its $949 price tag.
Interestingly, having the Windows XP operating system had little impact on sales, Peal said, adding that the Windows Me-equipped PC sold just as well as those with the newer software. This is a change from the past when the launch of Windows 95 and 98 actually influenced customer's purchasing decision.
