Maxell Making Education Programs A Priority

Staff -- TWICE, 7/8/2002

Fair Lawn, N.J.— Maxell Corp. of America is boosting educational outreach programs that are in addition to its 5th Anniversary "Song of the Year" Award, presented early in June.

These programs — designed to identify and assist aspiring professionals in the music and professional audio, video and broadcast industries in developing their skills and talents — come on top of the recent extended sponsorship of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest (JLSC) for an additional year.

For the first time, Maxell is a sponsor of the USA Weekend/JLSC Lyric Writing Contest for Teens, which was won by Leora Posner in the Patriotic Category and Briana Blahnik in the General Category.

The company also supports the touring JLSC recording-studio-in-a-bus that travels to schools and youth-oriented events around the country.

In April, Maxell announced that Ryan Stang was the latest recipient of the Maxell Real World Education Scholarship. Stang is the fifth person to receive a scholarship from this Maxell-funded program, established exclusively for students participating in film video, audio and the Internet at the Full Sale professional school.

This is an "excellent way for us to build our brand within the audiences impacted by the programs," said Peter Brinkman, VP/marketing at the full-line maker of digital and analog media products.
