Laserline Sold By Mead/Westvaco

By Jeff Malester -- TWICE, 6/17/2002

Stamford, Conn. — The Laserline Co., a newly formed operation, has acquired the Laserline brand from Mead/Westvaco.

Consumer electronics accessories products made under the Laserline brand umbrella include both home and portable audio and video storage for CDs, DVDs and CD-ROMs.

The Laserline Co. was formed for the purpose of acquiring the Laserline brand by Ruskin Capital, a developer of divestiture opportunities for under-performing brands, and Crean Gallagher, a private equity investor. Both are based here.

William E. Mooar, president of Ruskin Capital, is president of Laserline. Previously, he was president of Coast Manufacturing Co., a national marketer of audio/video storage systems. Media storage veteran Ed Dougherty is partner and executive vice president of Laserline. He formerly held VP/sales and marketing positions with portable storage company Case Logic and storage firm Creative Point/Laserline. Dougherty also has held management positions at Capitol Records.

"We are extremely pleased to acquire this well-established and respected brand," said Mooar about Laserline. "In the months ahead we will build on Laserline's brand awareness and broad customer base with innovative new products and exciting new promotions."
