Compaq PC Segment Revenue Drops 18%

Houston— Revenue for the Access segment of Compaq Computer, which includes personal computers, decreased 18 percent in the first quarter, reaching $3.5 billion, compared with $4.3 billion in the year-ago period. The Access segment posted an operating loss of $36 million in the three months, ended March 31, compared with a loss of $110 million in the same period in 2001. Net income for the first quarter was $44 million, compared with a loss of $91 million year over year.
