Best Buy Plans Another NYC Store Opening

By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 4/29/2002

New York— Eighteen months after barreling its way into the New York metro market, Best Buy is poised to take Manhattan.

The new store, to be located in Manhattan's Chelsea area, is scheduled to open this summer, and will be followed by the opening of Best Buy's first Brooklyn location, in the Bensonhurst section, this fall. Five other units will also open in nearby New Jersey and Long Island this year, and are among 60 new Best Buy storefronts nationwide that are scheduled to open in 2002.

Best Buy currently operates 19 stores in the Big Apple area, including the boroughs of Staten Island and Queens. It plans to open three additional stores in 2003 and more Manhattan locations in 2004. It ultimately envisions a total of 35 stores in New York and New Jersey.
