Instant Power For Cameras, Camcorders

Staff -- TWICE, 3/18/2002

New York— Utilizing the same zinc-air fuel cell technology as its Instant Power batteries and chargers for cellphones and PDAs, Electric Fuel is introducing an Instant Power backup battery for cameras and camcorders.

These disposable, ready-to-use batteries have a 3300 mAh capacity that provides up to 10 hours of continuous use, hours longer than the typical on-board rechargeable, said the company.

The batteries offer a three-year shelf life and are fully charged right out of the package. Each weighs six ounces and plugs into the camcorder or camera's DC jack via a 36-in. cord, and offers a built-in belt clip for carrying ease.

Suggested retail for Instant Power batteries for camcorders and digital camera ranges from $19.95 to $24.95, depending on model. These are currently available for Sony Hi8, Digital8 and mini DV camcorders; JVC camcorders; most Sony Mavica and Cyber-shot digital cameras; and Nikon digital cameras.

Upcoming models will support Kodak and Olympus digital cameras.
