LAS VEGAS— Memorex is expanding its offerings in the 210MB "Pocket" CD-R/CD-RW category at CES this week. The Pocket CD format fits in most CD/DVD home players and computer drives and can store 210MB of data, 24 minutes of CD audio or 160 high-resolution digital photos.
The 1-24x write speed discs will be available in black, purple, orange, red and blue, with matching slim jewel cases. The top surface of the CD-R is also silk-screened to match the disc's color.
Cool Pocket CD-R jewel packs will be available in stores by February, with 5- and 10-packs selling for $6.99 and $9.99 suggested retails, respectively.
Adding to the current rewritable 10-disc pack is a pegable blister 5-pack of Pocket CD-RW/210MB discs and slim jewel cases that will ship in February at a suggested $8.99 retail.
In the Pocket CD-R write-once format, a new 210MB/24min 5-pack from the Santa Fe Springs, Calif.-based company has a suggested $5.99 retail and rounds out 10- and 50-spindle packs that are currently shipping.
The company also is offering a new Pocket CD-R LabelMaker kit, complete with applicator, software with templates and 54 matte white blank labels at a suggested $19.99 retail.
Pocket CD-R refills come in a package of 100 matte white labels for $12.99 suggested retail.
Memorex is offering clear, slim jewel cases for the 8cm discs in a package of 25 at $9.99 suggested retail.
Rounding out the line is an adapter that slips around a Pocket CD disc to enable it to play in CD or DVD players that don't employ a tray, such as in a car A/V application. The Pocket CD-R Adapter has a suggested $9.99 retail and will ship this month along with the rest of the CD-R accessories.
At the same time, Memorex is expanding its current DVD product line with two new 3-disc combination packs.
Memorex 4.7 GB DVD-R blank media 3-packs will be available this month at a suggested $29.99 retail.
The company also said the suggested retail of 4.7 GB DVD-R singles has been reduced to $12.99 from $19.99. DVD-RW 4.7 GB singles will be available this month at a suggested $14.99.
Memorex said it has formed a partnership with Ingentix to manufacture and market solid-state MultiMediaCard Flash memory products.
Ingentix is a joint venture of Infineon Technologies AG and Israel-based Saifun Semiconductors. Memorex will be the exclusive U.S. distributor, while Ingentix provides manufacturing expertise.
Ingentix is now supplying Memorex MultiMediaCards, which are available in 16MB at $29.99 suggested retail, 32MB at $39.99 and 64MB at $69.99.
