Sony Sells Out DTV Decoder Box Inventory

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 12/17/2001

PARK RIDGE, N.J. — Sony said it has sold through its inventory on SAT-HD100 digital television set-top box and has no plan to add further quantities.

According to a Sony spokesperson, the company has decided to wait until it is ready to deliver a next-generation model later in the year. The company would not comment on the exact features of the new box until its regular 2002 line show.

The SAT-HD100 carried a $799.95 suggested retail price and was capable of receiving and converting all 18 ATSC digital TV formats into either 480I standard definition or 1080I high definition form. It would also tune and decode DirecTV standard and high definition channels.
