Pioneer's Speakers Tap 'Tuner' Market
Staff -- TWICE, 11/12/2001
Long Beach, Calif.—Pioneer has debuted a new series of its REV-brand speakers aimed at what it calls "tuners" — 16 to 24 year olds who are focused on fixing up their cars.
The line features a six-directional spoke grill that simulates exotic car wheels. The speakers also have a yellow aramid fiber cone and they use some of the same technology found in Pioneer's Premier Reference Series (PRS).
The REV line includes 1 1/8 inch soft dome polyester fiber tweeters which are housed in a special chamber designed to reduce standing waves and lower frequency response. The speakers also come with a –6dB crossover for the mid-woofer and a –12dB high pass for the tweeter.
The line includes the TS-D690R (6 x 9 inch, 2-way), the TS-D160R (6.5 inch, 2-way), TS-D170R (6.75 inch, 2-way) and the TS-D680 (6 x 8 inch, 2-way).
